What started in his home nearly a decade ago has become a vibrant, thriving, and trusted name in Charlotte-area tech support. Brian Mangum created BrightFlow Technologies to provide local IT support, web design, and VoIP phone services. The Charlotte native deals mostly with small- to medium-size businesses (SMB) and sees plenty of potential in his hometown.
“There’s so much business to be done in this town,” he said. “We’re blessed.”
His typical clients have about ten to fifteen employees with a more advanced network but not necessarily the resources for a tech person on staff. So they’ll outsource that portion of their business, and that’s where BrightFlow can help. Affordability can be a factor for SMB networks, so his company offers leasing options for security arrangements.
Brian says skimping on firewall solutions can be detrimental. “It’s the number one vulnerability point for hackers to steal your data and your identity—or worse yet, your customer’s information,” he said.
One of Brian’s tech company pet peeves? “When you call their support team and they talk down to you.” Brian stresses compassion and empathy. He wanted to create a different kind of tech culture—one where everyone on the team is engaging, helpful, and friendly. “That’s been my number one requisite,” he asserted.
Besides recent sales and marketing efforts, the empathetic approach seems to be paying off because over 90 percent of his client base comes by word-of-mouth referrals. Located in Mint Hill, Brian appreciates the area for its pace and proximity to other amenities like restaurants and parks. He enjoys a good meal and craft beer at Dunwellz and would like to see different events like Matthews’ Food Truck Fridays expand in the area. But he has faith the area will continue to grow and thrive. It has for BrightFlow Technologies.
