Fametta Darling: Surrender to the Moment

Fametta Darling, My Darling DoulaFollowing the birth of her own son with the help and care of a doula, Fametta Darling of My Darling Doula discovered her true calling. “I said to myself, ‘This is very special work, and I want to be a part of it,’” she explained. The former Atlanta‑based project manager returned to Charlotte, her hometown, and now provides that same comfort and care to others birthing children.

As a trained doula, she provides pregnancy, labor, and postpartum support for expectant families seeking an alternative birthing experience. Her clients come to her through her online presence and are referred by local birthing centers, hospitals, and clinics. Darling reiterates that human childbirth is a normal physiological process designed by nature to bring babies into the world, and her role is that of a caring and supportive guide.

“There are people who have babies who may not identify as women,” she explained about some of her transgender clients. She works with adoptive families and other non-traditional births.

Her comfort among a diverse population of people and experiences is part of the reason she chose to live and work on the east side of Charlotte. She refers to the area as a true melting pot coming together organically, naturally. She also loves the parks and trails in the northeast near Reedy Creek Park and Mallard Creek. The Liberian-born Darling admits a special fondness for Zowee’s Restaurant, the West African eatery off Sugar Creek Rd.

Her advice to other business owners reflects a principle she shares with her pregnant patrons. “Don’t be afraid to surrender to the moment,” she said about the ability to let go of controlling every single outcome. Not trusting your team can prolong the challenge ahead. She sees it all the time in childbirth. “The moment they do let go is when things unfold naturally into place.”
